    Paintstorm Studio Pro, hands down.

    $25? Can't beat that! http://www.paintstormstudio.com/de/index.html

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Krita, which has the benefit of being free!

I found Affinity limited in what it can do that is part of my working method. So I didn't like it. I bought it when they first came out with it and they may have extended their features by now. Plus I wanted to support anyone who was going to give PhotoShop some competition. Besides, I have PS, know it, and it's one of my go-to programs. But you do pay for it.

Whatever happened to GIMP? That was free and more or less was patterned after PS.

Yes +1 for GIMP, it is my go to for all the colour adjustments and filters that don’t come as part of ArtRage.

I use GIMP to make seamless patterns for Spoonflower designs. Open ArtRage image as a PNG in GIMP, select Layer - Transform - Offset - Wraparound -2x2.

Do you know about the Pattern Fill in ArtRage? You can create seamless patterns this way as well.

Thank you, HannahRage. In fact, I LOVE Pattern Fill and use it all the time. Some irregular patterns need to be staggered in a way that I have used the GIMP transform process first, but once I have the basic repeatable element, I use Pattern Fill to expand the design. The grid and snap-to grid in ArtRage has made seamless design easy. Well, okay, not "easy". Easier. I don't actually HAVE to use GIMP anymore because of the precision that "Snap-to-Grid" gives me. In ArtRage 5, when I divide the pattern I know absolutely that the edges will match. Awesome. In fact, there are very few designs for which I use the GIMP shortcut now. (Although I did want to reassure others that GIMP still exists.)

Affinity Photo can do whatever ArtRage can not do. Affinity Photo can do whatever ArtRage can do. Affinity Photo can do whatever Photoshop can do. Affinity Photo is cheaper than both ArtRage and Photoshop (a lot cheaper than PS) . I use ArtRage a lot and Affinity Photo (and Designer) a lot. My professional work as an illustrator is depending on good software. I could do with Affinity only, not on ArtRage only.

Still I like to work on my illustrations using ArtRage a lot, but I switch back and fro between the two software, mostly for masking, using clipping masks, in Affinity, since ArtRage lacks that. So yes, Affinity Photo really replaces Photoshop for me. Affinity Photo is everything that Photoshop ever was for me (except the animation part, but there are some better solutions than PS that I use)...

https://repperpatterns.com/ I use this nice little pattern designer to make tiles to use in ArtRage. It is fun and easy to use. You got to try it out!
