    Exclamation Windows 10 Crash Information.

We're currently looking in to a crash that can occur using ArtRage on Windows 10, specifically when painting with the watercolour brush. This crash appears to be more common for some users than others, and we've been having some trouble replicating it here but I wanted to post a quick note to let people know what our status is.

Currently we are waiting on crash data to be processed by Microsoft so that we can get access to more information. When an application crashes on Windows, data is passed through to a Microsoft system and then passed on to the developer. We're currently (August 17th) waiting for the first of that data to come through but we hope it will be available soon and that will help us find out what's going on.

In the meantime, there are some things that could help us track down the cause of the problem:

    1. If you're using ArtRage 4 on Windows 10 and you are experiencing the crash, contact us at support@artrage.com. We have a specific ArtRage test version that should help report crash information and we can provide a download of that.

    2. Please try turning off Multithreading in the Advanced section of the ArtRage Preferences Panel and let us know (at support@artrage.com) if that makes a difference. When we've been able to replicate an issue here it seems that it may relate to thread handling in the new OS so we're interested to hear if this step solves the problem for people.

We'll keep this thread up to date with information as anything new comes to light.

Quick update: We've had reports that turning off multithreading in the Advanced section of the ArtRage Preferences Panel stops the crash happening. We're working on trying to find out what's happening with Win10 threading at the moment and we're able to replicate the problem reliably (though it takes a while!) so we hope to have more updates soon.

Update - 24/8/15: We're just testing a fix for this issue (and the speed issue we found when we implemented our original fix) with some external testers. If the new build works well we will aim to release an update this week with the fix in place.
