    Harbour

Trying to create the start of rain, in an old time harbour, dull lighting, and a feel of dampness, all done for practice, started to detail and got carried away with the mood of the weather, not really a completed painting, but one semi-detailed and a bit rough , hope you get the weather mood I was trying for....Jack.

Very cool time of day, Jack. Love the weather as I remember it was the norm around here at the water in early morning -- gray, low ceiling that would burn off around 11am.

Love it. Nice complex scene. Good details and so forth. Also a good time for fishing.

I would recommend that you anchor that lad in the row boat by bringing the darks you have in all the other sea reflections out to match that there, otherwise he's floating (not in water) and the sea doesn't match the rowboat and all that as to the level of darks you have there. So it separates the water from the boat rather than having them sharing the same space.

Other than that, I say, avast and yahar. . . and off to take advantage of the paintin' time in port, if ye knows what I mean, shipmate. . .

    Hello D,
Thanks for your feedback on this, I actually did the rowboat a lot smaller than it is here in the first paint, you probably may have also noticed that the sea around the rowboat has a blank expression, this is where I blended the edges of the portion containing the rowboat (rectangle) with the rest of the picture after re-sizing, top marks on observation to you sir, not many people would have spotted that, I didn't progress the sea expression because I was not satisfied with the masts, rigging, and the sky, all of which I would have had to completely re-paint to make it look more correct, I was satisfied with the dull wet weather look but decided there was insufficient merit with there being too many mistakes to continue, so that's when I decided to post as it is, hence the " dead sea" around the rowing boat, including missing expression around it, pleased you noticed that, It proves how observant you are in these matters. Thanks for looking in D , your advice is always useful.....Jack.

No doubt this is an excellent storytelling illustration as well as a finely moody painting. Bravissimo!

    Caesar,
Hello my friend, thanks for your comment, I had big ideas for this one, was going to try to do a "Good" painting but everything was going wrong so I stopped trying to progress it , I would rather start a new painting than keep re-working this one, I appreciate your kind words though.....Jack.

    You really set a mood

The detail of the ships really takes me back in time. You do such a great job on skies and water. Very nice.
