    barbados wave

I am not much of a painter of scenery, but had some minor success with another pic of Barbados. This one however, has me stumped. Cant seem to get the feel of the rocks or the water....help?...oh it looks even worse big on the screen!hahahaha

I like it. This reminds me of an artwork that I used to walk past every day at work. If I was too close to it, it looked like nothing at all but abstract colour, but once you were about 50 metres away, suddenly you realised it was a picture of a cliff near the sea, much like this one.

I like the rocks, and the sea foam looks pretty natural.

I agree that the water still needs a little work. Have you used some sort of blending tool on it? It looks a little too much like the sky. When I look at the colours of real sea water, though, it's not really a blend of colours, but a complex quilt of colour blocks.

This is why I don't embark on sea painting that often! It's a lot of fiddly work to get right.

Hi Margi.......just a few things that I do..........I've put screenshots to explain..........the first thing is to have smooth paper......so with your painting I first had to gently smooth with the soft knife.........then the rocks..........add a lighter colour like the one on the left and mix it in with the flat knife.........then for the water use the pencil to create the eddys etc............the last is a painting I did some time ago now from imagination showing what you can do with the tools I've mentioned

Thanks Peter, the rock is much improved. I hadnt thought of using the pencil for the water, i will try that. I am on my ipad, so the screen shots look different, but i get the picture. Yours is what i am aiming for....not there yet. In the meantime, i tried another one with thick oils and while i like the look of it, the water doesnt have the same movement. Thanks again...i'll keep trying....
