The sweep of the orb and the placement tangential to the underpart of the jaw, the subtlety of the values around the mouth, and the dark area becoming more solid, it sort of reverses the expected, very successfully I might add. I would never had thought to try that. It's really eye catching. And how the light comes down across the simple passage in the neck to the collar. Wow. It's so artistic. Yet it shows what it is. And all that said, it reminds me of a book cover from the 60s. There was a lot of photo experimentation and print experimentation going on around that time.

Plus, I love the sort of stone texture in the upper right light area and below on another arc. All these opposing visual propositions coming together in a very remarkable work.

    I'm crazy about this piece.

And yet you choose Sponge Bob as your avatar. Sooooo out there. Hahaha.

    Brava!

Fly, Katie, Rose, Uuderzo, glad you enjoyed this!

D Akey, when you mentioned 1960's I immediately flashed back to a copy of Jon Lennon's A Spaniard in the Works, a book my folks had kicking around when I was a kid. I haven't thought about that book in years and years. And then I remembered the yellow budgie from that book...
And here I am with a very yellow picture....

I think many people who have watched kids grow up recognize this scenario: you see a picture of your child and something in how he/she is captured in the image shows a child who looks a bit foreign to you, a bit more like a certain relative and a whole lot more mature than what you are used to seeing. That's what happened with this photo I used: it's my eldest daughter, from a photo my husband took over the weekend. Working on the photo in ArtRage is my way of handling the bit of discord the photo gives me.

Alexandra, from the time she was wee small, people have used "fairy" in describing her.....I think it's her bone structure and her general liveliness.
My other daughter, who is just a bit more mercurial and mischievous, has the same air about her but usually earns the adjective "imp."
