I gave the video above a try. It's not the same, nor as good as their end result but it's as good as I can do for now. I find the pallet knife, using the default settings; which I made sure to reset, challenging to understand how to use. I will need to experiment more with it. Has anyone created a video explaining the default knives and how to use them?
I added the blue hills in the background after I painted the foreground. You can't do that using layers on a real painting! I used PS Express to clean up my painting:
