    Steampunk Art - Submit yours.

I recently ran accros several websites that I adored. The links are posted at the bottom of this entry.

I find computers take a large amount of my time, in part because of the work that I do. I often find myself longing for my younger days when I explored carpentry, fine furniture making, collecting antique oddities, doodling, creating and such.
Recently I ran accross a website http://steampunkworkshop.com/index.shtml that embodies a large part of what I used to do combined with what I do currently, giving me the best of both worlds. I've always loved to create and tinker, more on the antique Victorian side of things. This website led to another, which led to another.

I've noticed some people's art on ArtRage is very steampunky, and so I thought I would put forth a challenge for ArtRage artists to submit steampunky art in this thread. While I am still trying to get a grasp on what the actual definition of steampunk is, perhaps the NeverWasHaul photo on flickr would work as an inspiration.

I've noticed that if I don't post a "start" to the thread with a picture, the thread dies. Not having a tablet, limits me to a mouse which I am terrible at. I am hoping somebody will take up the thread and create something to start everybody off.

Another link that might provide inspiration is here - http://steampunkmagazine.com/ .

In the meantime, because I split my time between computers, farming, and community teaching, I think I am going to take a break, and see if I can't take an old farm implement disc and turn it into a horizontal gong that if finely tuned :-).

A great way to start my steampunking and my artistic career again.

    Hi there Mouse,

Apologies for reposting this so soon after posting it in my 'Raging' threads. It's just that this was actually done for a challenge entitled Steam-punk, so it seemed relevant. Trying for that Jules Verne story kind of feel.

I look forward to seeing all the imagery that you talented bunch drop in here, in the style of this popular genre. Perhaps what people like about Steam-punk so much is how it panders to the old fashioned quirky (yet somehow familiar), and to an alternative future where certain Victorian values still hold sway. I'm probably way off the mark - so unlike me - cough.

Go for it guys. Don't be shy.
Nice idea for a tread. Good one.

    Nick

    Individual underwater exploring machine.

    Hello Mouse.
    Great theme for a thread!!!
Several months ago I ran across the same site and get addicted to the style.

Here's a fast scetch of some underwater machine.
It can be used for repair works or maybe for exploring the sunk ships.

    Hope it fits the theme)))

    Best wishes!

Great idea for a challenge! I tried my hand on the steampunk theme not too long ago. I already posted it in the gallery section: http://www2.ambientdesign.com/forums...ad.php?t=28863

Didn't want to repost it here.

I've never created a steampunk image but the genre does fascinate me... perhaps because as a youth I was intrigued by those Jules Verne & HG Wells tales....
