dpi/ppi/?? and animation ---two separate questions

Hi, I'm new to rage and new to computer graphics as well. Two unrelated questions:

    1. Am currently a glorified sign painter...every decorative item individually hand-painted. Many of our items can be printed at 100% of the size on my screen, but how do I set the dpi or ppi or whatever so that the art can be increased....as dramatically as possible. (7 foot would not be far-fetched....OHHH, how sweet if this is possible!!) But 2' x 3' would be really great as well. Again, I'm a dumb blonde almost computer illiterate noob, so forgive the ignorance of my questions.

    2. I'm trying to do my first simple animation for a contest for use on tv (big dreamer....) Any direction as to how to do that. I know layers and how to animate it but don't know about what size/resolution/whatever would have to be used. (Heinz ketchup commercial---due by August 6, 2007 - see website) But tell me how first!

Okay, sorry, I asked my question before reading other posts and now I believe I understand how to figure out ppi (the multiply 300 by size bit)

So Now I just need to glean whatever animation info i can get....thanks

The upcoming version of ArtRage will have DPI support built in, which should make this a bit easier

It might be pretty hard to do animation in ArtRage, as there's no playback possibility (no chance to check the motion) and neither is there support for image sequences, onion skinning or other animation tools. Anyhow, for the technical specs:

Video is complex and disturbing medium. For starters, pixels on TV are not square, they are stretched/squeezed horisontally. That's why I usually work in square pixels and only squeeze the material to proper resolution before final delivery.

PAL (Europe) 720x576 resolution when broadcasted (but I would work in 768x576 square pixels on computer and squeeze that to 720x576 to keep image proportions right). Speed is 25 full frames per second or 50 half-frames per second when interlaced (animation is usually done "on twos", meaning 12fps (cinema film speed is 24fps).

NTSC (USA) 720x480 (640x480 square pixels), about 30 full-frames per second, 60 half-frames if interlaced. Sorry, I've never worked with NTSC so I can't really speak about that. Some info is on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTSC.

Or you could use one of the many HD formats. 16:9 Widescreen HD is 1920x1080 at least in Europe.
