My first impressions on Artrage Vitae are excellent

    Hello,

My first impressions on Artrage Vitae are excellent. The tool commands produce very fast effects. There is an astonishing flow.

The mixture of the colors gives effects more realistic than ever.

Where is Retina and HiDPI Display support option? Is it the reason why Artrage is so brillant? Why is it also an option? Does it take a lot of power for the pc? Is it also linked with multithreading?

    Thank you for your answers!

    Hi Claudine,
You can find the switch for HiDPI screens in ARV's; Preferences > Interface.
Why is it an Option? My thought is, that there possibly is some kind of extra overhead for the OS to run it and for those that don't have a hi dpi screen why give the OS the extra work.

    Hello Markv,

    Thank you for your answer.
I work with a 1216 x 771px tablet pc. Do you think my screen characteristics allow it to gain benefits from Retina and HiDPI Display support? Is it only for Very large screen?

    Thank you for your message.

It’s not so much about the physical size of the screen but also the pixel density within it.
Sadly, given the pixel count of your screen, I doubt there is any advantage to be gained in turning on the HiDPI feature.
By way of comparison my 15” Retina screen is 2880px X 1800px.

Yes, thank you, I thought so. If I desactivate this option, does it mean that my computer displays less energy use or less RAM memory ?

If I do understand, the speed with which Artrage works now is not relevant to the Retina and HiDPI Display support, isn't it?

    Thank you for your help.

In past versions of AR when used on larger high ppi screens, text, icons and other elements of the UI could look slightly “soft”, with things just not looking as crisp as they should. And the HiDPI setting now fixes that.
The rendering of the canvas size on screen is also affected by this setting.
Bearing in mind that screen size and pixel density varies from screen to screen, but for my Retina screen, 1:1 life size or print size if you prefer, happens at 86% zoom for a 300dpi canvas. If HiDPI is turned Off then 1:1 size happens at 43% zoom for the same canvas.
Worth knowing for those who need to know what a painting looks like at print size.

As for the overheads for the system I am just guessing, but I can’t see it effecting RAM usage.
And I would think the GPU is doing most of the work.
Any extra energy consumption, I doubt will be that noticeable to the user. Though if there is more energy being used then battery run time will be effected when not connected to mains power.
But as I say, I am just guessing here, and I think the energy use margins are going to be quite small.
