    The Sentinil of Verdun

    French Ace Jean Navarre claims a Fokker E.III as his next victim over Fort Douaumont on the Verdun front in 1916. Navarre's exploits over the trenches of Verdun earned him the nickname of "The Sentinel of Verdun" among the troops below. Click image for larger version.

    Fantastic action. Very much the historic illustration. I would imagine he earned that nickname and had more than a few drinks offered him.

    "I would imagine he earned that nickname and had more than a few drinks offered him." Very true, things were not going well for France at that time and Navarre's exploits above the trenches were a source of pride for the common soldiers living in the dismal muddy trenches below.
