    The Rothbury Hills

This is an exercise using mainly the airbrush tool, with some additions in pastel, ink and pencil - and watercolour for the sky. I tried all sorts of combinations of tools for the sky - all of them with poor results - and then got it with the watercolour.

The Rothbury Hills are in Northumberland, in the north-east of England, and the sketch was initially made last year on a road with a series of views of the hills. I just stopped the car at a high point, sketched the scene, took some photos and - filed it all away....

Intriguing style. Feels somewhat decorative while it's clearly depicting great distance. It's almost as if I am reading because I wander around and see details that are subtle when I fall upon them but all the while providing additional points of information that are added to the overall.
