I have never encountered that problem exporting from AR5 Nor do I think, judging from a lack of forum comments here, have many others encountered it!
What file format are you trying to export to when you see the message?
You may also want to contact support directly about it here: [email protected]
With as much info as you can e.g. system OS & version, ArtRage version and exact steps to reproduce the problem.

It comes up with that error as soon as I click on file -> export image file, they do know about it as I had an email exchange with them about it but they never resolved the problem.

Ah, well I’m not sure what to suggest then, other than maybe try emailing them again about it. Normally they are very helpful and can get to the bottom of problems.
I take it you have already tried reinstalling AR5?
Not sure I can suggest much else sadly
