Hi Rob, This is a nice quiet scene. The problem here is that the right side is wide open and the sawn looks like he will swim right on out of the painting, leading our eyes out of the scene. One rule I have heard is to not have things exiting the scene, but entering. Your bird is far enough into the painting that he may be safe. How about adding a small boat dock or some reeds on the right side. This would keep the bird and the viewers inside the painting.
