Wink Material Study: Marbles, Transparency and Lighting

    Painting completed January 25th, 2018

I've always been fascinated with transparent and translucide material, in the strong direct light, where the light is cast into the shadow. For this study, I took the photo reference myself, using my daughter's marble collection, carefully choosing different colors and the perfect July + noon sunshine.

    Original size of 16 x 20 inches at 300 dpi (4800 x 3600 pixels)

Very beautiful! Was it all done in ArtRage? Did you use the airbrush?

That's a phenomenal image. Very clean and a nice graphic idea. Lots of color and nostalgia. Sort of updated in subject from the country squires and their 18th century still lifes showing bounty from the manor. Still got a bit of Trompe-l'œil going but it's definitely 20th-21st century.

Wow absolutely amazing work! Would love to see you make a script of your process because I would love to see how you painted the colour and lights and how you painted the transparency of the marbels.
Q did you colour pick from a photo to get those colours?
