Canvas Light Control

Is there any way to change the direction / strength / shadow length / etc. of the canvas light? I'm guessing not as I can't find any settings anywhere, but thought I'd ask just in case. Cheers.

No - the lighting is 'built in' to the paint texture, it's not currently editable.

If you're using ArtRage 5, though, you can use layer effects to add shadows/lighting from any direction, as well as editing various other properties (either as well as the default lighting, or turning it off and using just layer effects).

The layer effects will only be around the paint on a layer, not within the paint strokes, but the Emboss option will let you closely duplicate a lot of the default lighting effects.
