open existing painting in same zoom level?

I would like to know, why are paintings always opened in the size so they fit the screen? I would like that they open in that zoom level I saved and closed them. Is there a setting for that which I did not find? I looked all over...

Sorry but no the user can't choose the opening zoom level.
Personally I like the current opening, as when coming back to a painting I like to get a fresh image in my mind of the whole canvas before diving in and starting to work on spesifics.

You could add a View of the painting set to a specific zoom level (from the References). Views can be worked on directly, or just pinned up as a reference.
