Well painted, and very dramatic ENCHANTER
Trees need to be living in groups of at least 3 ( according to a specialist in tree and shrub plantings ) so it's no wonder the lonely elm tree looks so desolate!

    Nice one Enchanter.

Vignettes are tricky in that the 'throw away' part that one would think of as unimportant is all essential, and that's the way the pigment moves into the white of the board.

The way you have it is okay, but it doesn't look like you were the boss of it from the beginning, particularly up front in the process where you washed in a tone.

Believe it or not, the initial wash is a make or break moment because some or much of it shows in the finished painting (assuming you're doing that kind of technique and not using a mechanical vignetting/framing method after the fact.)

Took me a long time before I realized that in my own paintings.

I like quite a lot about your painting though.

marian: thanks by popping by........and the comments

Dakey : I wasnt actually going for a vignette effect, I think I just gave up and was tired and had other things on my mind, so I left it as a sketch sort of thing..........I seem to be doing that lately....I know I got other things to do but I feel like painting instead.........

I thought im not going to touch figure drawing at the moment, becuase i need a lot of work in that area..anatomy etc..., so im concentrating on landscapes and a few animals......ive been looking at some paintings by Joe Dowden who paints landscapes in watercolours and David sheperd , who paints wildlife(mostly) in oils and trying to emulate them but using ArtRage....which is difficult since ArtRage is good at emulation ,but I have to find away to make soemthing similar wiht the tools it has.......

some of my latest paintings have been adaptations of these two artists

    Hello Enchanter!
Elm is & was one of the choicest of woods used in fine 17th, 18th, 19th Century furniture! Maybe that is why the Elm is so Lonely!
    Very Nicely done!

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Enchanter,

When I see this painting, I just love it. Maybe it's loneliness has captured me. Nice color palette. I think you've done this one very nice.
