Could someone please post some YouTube/ArtRage Landscape videos?

Community and ArtRage:

We need someone to post some new landscape paintings via YouTube for new users to follow using ArtRage. New users usually paint landscapes since mistakes can be hidden. If someone could paint a scene like Liam Rainsford does, myself and others would be very appreciative! Use screen capture software and not ArtRage's screen capture. We need to see the brushes used and their settings. Now if I could paint like Liam does I would be cranking out landscapes every day!

Liam uses two brushes (Wide Filbert #10, Liner #1), five colors (Indian Yellow, Permanent Rose, Cerulean Blue, White & Black), mineral spirits, on Fredrix 12 x 16 canvas sheets. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

Now if he can do it with that hardware we should be able to do the same using our software. We may struggle getting our brush strokes to match his, since he holds his filbert really closely to the canvas.

I'm a noob (after 5 years of picking it up and then throwing my hands up in the air). We need guidance from the pros on here. Help us to get some decent landscape videos so we can learn and understand this wonderful tool. I need to master ArtRage Landscape's because I know it will help me to paint using real brushes and real paint. The two mediums can help each other.

Their style of painting a "painterly painting" comes through in this example. They used the paint tubes to apply lots of paint, smeared it out with the pallet knife to give it that ala prima look, then applied a small oil brush to give details where they were needed. A very simple painting. Sky, lake bank and water. Just what I need to get, and keep going.

Liam's painting style uses a different approach. He blocks in his painting using oil paints (4) that are heavily thinned down which gives the painting a true wet on wet process. After blending the sky he adds oil on top for the details. The mid grounds are always light blues, to help with perspective and the foregrounds are an attempt at a Monet impressionistic style of dabs of paint. His style is a combination of modernistic muted realism in the sky and an impressionistic style in the foreground.

The only thing I wish that Liam would do is to quiet down the use of black and use more colors. Sometimes his paintings are a little to dark for my tastes.

I am still unsure on how to get AR to perform the block in stage of his paintings. The use of a wet under painting with dry oils on top may not be able to be done by AR. Notice how his under paintings act like water colors?

Enough rambling... I'm still reaching out to a super pro AR user that could duplicate Liam's style. And if it is possible, please include the brush settings as it is painted. This latest painting does not show us the brush settings. Someone in the comments section complains about this.

Try one of these two:

1. Filling the layer with the fill tool first and using that as a 'wet' paint background (may or may not suit what you're trying to do)

2. Boosting the thinners to about 50%; his 'sky mixing' looks like semi-thinned, but still heavily loaded, oils.


Also use the Wet palette knife for soft blending together, if you're having trouble controlling the effect.

Dry oils on top is easily done by adding a new layer - you can use the auto dry setting for the oil brush as well, but it gives you less control if you want to mix or blend later.
