I met him in the old days when crossing the equator - in the days when we travelled to Europe by ship instead of flying. He wasn't near as fearsome looking then as I remember.Wonderful painting with great detail as usual.

I think the ship is probably trying to escape after having stolen the swim fins and snorkel out of Davey Jones' locker. It's not well advised to mess with the king of the deep if you're a mariner.
A right good yarn, lad. Certainly calls for the tellin'.
