Newbie How to color within the lines

Hello I think I have an idea on how to color. I know it involves layers I just don't know the method to use. After drawing the picture I don't know how to use the layers to color or how many layers I need.

let me give you a example (trying any way),

lets say your picture consist out of 4 parts? your select your 1st part and you make a new layer and fill it in, and you do the same with the other parts as you select them and make new layers for each of them.Ones this is done? you have the possibility to select 1 by 1 and combine them all together.
I hope i helped you with this?

As long as your shape is filled in you can paint within the lines by locking the layer transparency.

The tutorial below allows paint on the lineart itself, but if you draw a filled in shape, lock transparency comes in very handy, allowing you to colour the whole shape without going outside the lines:

Artrage lite doesn't have lock. Also discovered it doesn't have stencil. I created the stencil and all it did was create an outline. I could not color inside it was mostly red. I might upgrade to artrage 4.
The mean thing I want to do is create landscape art and paint without blending the colors of ie water and trees etc. I guess the lock will work for this correct? I will look for videos on lock transparency for artrage.

Sounds like you need to learn how to use layers. This will enable you to paint without colours running into each other. Here is a simple YouTube tutorial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clfdK0t0jbg

Oh God of homeless things, look down
And try to ease the way

If you right click on the Stencil and choose 'invert', you can flip the red areas and colour inside those.
