    A selection enclosing a stencil

One of the things I find myself doing regularly when using a stencil is to enclose it in a selection (thank you, Someonesane) to prevent the paint strokes extending outside the boundaries of the stencil.

This is such a regular requirement I wonder if I'm missing a trick and a simple way of doing this was built into the stencil function?

    No problem Pat!

Unfortunately, I don't believe they have a feature that will surround your stencil with a selection automatically.
Nothing is easy to the unwilling.

    Thanks, mate.

I got the idea of surrounding the stencil with a selection from one of your (many) wonderful videos.

I don't know if this will help, but if you use the masking tool in the selection box you can mask outside the stencil to block any paint from spreading beyond the stencil.
