You may have no training but you have an understanding of form and volume and a natural connection with color. I think this is very well done. Just out of curiosity, I wonder what it would look like if you continued the gold arcing stroke running towards the right, to the left side as well. Not completely out of the painting but beginning at the dark vertical and fading towards the left before it gets to the left border as you did on the right. This might have the effect of gently leading your eye into the painting. While I like the painting very much my eye kind of gets stuck at that dark vertical/gold stroke beginning and strongly drawn back there when I try exploring the rest of the painting. That is not a bad thing. But it does create a strong visual tension. If that is your intent then don't change a thing. I was just curious as to what the effect might be if the gold stoke led you in and then disappeared and reappeared out of that darkness.

Just my 2 cents. Again very nice painting and welcome to the forum.

It's brilliant. I love the variety. Colors are great. Sort of feels like mid 20th century abstraction, around the time when Asian design was merging into the Western aesthetic sense. It happened before like in the late 1800s and beyond, like in Art Nouveau. But there was also a wave that came through from around 1950.

This in particular has a robust, romanticized quality where I could see it as a set decoration in a Broadway musical or dance performance.

I see Japanese screens and those Chinese ribbons on sticks that those performers often use in their choreography. But also on the Western side, it feels abstract like some of the western colorings integrated with some overriding design sense chromatically integrating it all together in a fascinating harmony.

So this is where I went with it. I heard clashing brass cymbals and shamisen, a high female voice, and acrobatic dancers in loose fitting pajama style garb.

Anyway, it's pretty cool.

I can definitely see that as well. I think a couple reasons might be that it has that hand painted feeling like many of the hand done graphics in the old school circus midway props. Banners and bright colors. I can see that as well. Just switch the music to a calliope and we're in Kansas or Missouri.
