    Painter 2016 - anyone..? ArtRage 5..? Anyone?

I did not buy Corel Painter 2015. I will not buy Corel Painter 2016 (the release was August 10). Painter is VERY high prize paint app...you have to pay more than 8 x the prize as for ArtRage. Is Painter worth it? No. Last version I bought was X3 (13) and I will stop there I guess. Painter is getting more and more complex, introducing more and more brushes every release ( is it 1000 brushes now?) and this time some new Particle Brushes just like Flame Painter...each new brush set costin $29.99...and a new Photoshop Painter plug-in...

I was a long time a Painter fan, but the direction the developer it is taking with "...the impressive sensory selection of realistic Natural-Media® that perfectly emulates real life art materials..." is really not true any more. ArtRage has long time passed Painter in this respect. Just to mention one digital painting technique: the Watercolour tool in ArtRage is waaay better than in Painter, which is IMO just a laugh...and sooo ugly. Painter is not perfectly emulating real life art materials, not Watercolour, any way...

so, I am waiting for the new ArtRage version. Anyone? Any information on that? ArtRage 5..?

    I love ArtRage...

i must agree over the hole line here, painter is VERY $ oriented;(becomes a high tech application inn such a way you don't see the wood no more due to the trees.before you can put 1 line of paint in that program? you need a calculator and a search engine. And to be honest? bottom line, can we even still call it a " paint" application?
PS, even a "upgrade" cost you +-$230 ;(

Yes that is the beauty of AR, it's powerful simplicity!
In the real world if I want to draw something I grab a sheet of paper, a pencil and begin. And ArtRage is the same.

I suppose I simply like to stick with what I know. I have looked into other programs out of curiosity, most are too expensive, too complicated, or just don't do it for me. Art Rage takes learning, for sure, but for some reason it is simply fun. I love experimenting with all that it can do. I know for sure I have not found out all that it can do. I am certainly not an accomplished artist. We have some truly brilliant artists in the Art Rage community. Seeing what others have been able to do with Art Rage is astounding to me. And, the generosity of so many who offer their expertise is exciting. I personally want to thank all those who contribute to helping us all learn. To the Art Rage team, I also extend thanks for their willingness to help any who seek it. I am not sure that I have seen such direct communication between developers and users with other programs as I have seen with the Art Rage team.

I did get Painter 2015, and have tried to use it but I found it was just tooooo much. I totally agree with everyone that the power of ArtRage is in its simplicity and it has an amazing range of function with a few tools. It does not get in the way of the creative process and the ArtRage team and support for the forum and gallery have created a generous and friendly atmosphere for all digital painters no matter the skill level.

    Talking They respect all customers..!

    bestellen,
I think it is a steep learning curve only if you dig into Painter. But if you use it right out of the box, it is not more complicated than ArtRage. Just start painting..! But if you dig into it; and the deeper you get... woa!...there is alot of things to find out about...more than I am interested in any way...

And the price: if you buy it as a new user it is expensive compared to all other painting apps. If you buy it as an upgrade, it is still more expensive than all other painting apps. But, and here is the "good" news. You can buy it "cheap" for just 99 USD if you upgrade by this secret link: http://www.painterartist.com/us/prod..._PTR16_W1S1_US

BUT, if you go to the ordinary Corel Painter web site you will not find that upgrade price. No, it is hidden from all upgraders exept those who gets the secret link by mail or by some other way of information. Isn't this strange? Corel did the same yester year too for Painter 2015: secret information to a secret upgrade discount for some users. Not for all. That is very odd. No respet for all customers...

ArtRage is a good company in this respect. They respect all customers..!

Painter 2016 is actually a streamlined version. They have reduced the number of brushes and combined a lot of brushes. Also, they have finally fixed the blending. Now you can blend without picking up the white layer underneath. They have added a more realistic look to the brushes called dynamic speckles. I wasn't going to get the upgrade, but they offered their $99 deal to 2015 owners and they added tool tips on all the brush control functions. That is what made me try the new upgrade. I am glad I did because this version is finally getting closer to ArtRage with the paint look. The tool tips are great and I am finally learning Painter, lol. However, I really don't have much use for the new musical brushes. Yes, they really added musical brushes. I guess, if you are into trying to combine the two art forms, this is something you would like. Anyway, I think this is the best version of Painter so far because it finally blends like ArtRage. ArtRage is still more fun and easier to use.
