Question Color Management for Reference Images

I've searched the forums and found out AR doesn't do any internal colour management. This is probably fine, I tweak colours in PS afterwards anyway and I can do my CM there.

However, ever since I bought a wide gamut monitor, it's really annoying when apps don't colour manage actual images, like jpegs. And that is the case of AR's extremely handy reference feature. The colours are not read as sRGB (which most jpegs would have embedded, or would be intended as), they're displayed in my monitor's gamut - therefore everything is overblown and ultra saturated. That feature being reference and all, you can imagine what problems this leads to.

Could you implement colour profiles, at least for reference and tracing images?

A few weeks later, I'm trying to work in AR again, but it's a pain. The workaround is to convert ALL my reference images to my monitor's ICC profile and then use them in AR. This is...not feasible in the long run.

We can't implement separate colour profiles - this would mean that the reference and tracing images would actually be using different colours to the canvas, which would cause a lot of problems (for example, colour picking!). I'm afraid this is the problem with wide gamut monitors.

No offense, but it's more "we don't want to be bothered" than "we can't". Wide gamut monitors are not a "problem", they're wide gamut for a reason. Even internet browsers and free image viewers implemented color profiles by now, to some extent.

I understand, it would require adding conversion between profiles to color picking and other functions. Totally. Would that be too much effort for too few users? Possibly.

I understand why you guys don't want to do it, but that doesn't help me at all. Thanks for responding at least!

edit: I tried it out and converting reference images to my monitor's profile in PS does the trick. Still, it's a pain to do for every single one and for every painting I do. But hey, whatever works.
