The oil brush settings have "aspect" and "rotation" settings that you could use to achieve something similar to keeping the brush on it's side. The aspect can be used on a round brush (or square) to make the brush more flat, and then you can use the rotation setting to align the brush up and down longways. It isn't a perfect simulation but it gives you something similar to using a filbert brush on it's side.
