    Buddha figurine

    Hi,

I drew this figurine with pencil on paper, then colored it using ArtRage.
I'd like to work on my coloring technique, so if you can give me hints on how to improve it, or point me to good instruction materials on the Net, that would be great!

I like this. Nice coloring but do I sense hesitation/caution? (Is it meant to be made out of gold or clay?)

Are looking for realism or a particular style/feeling?

If realism is your aim my only suggestion is be bolder. Look at your reference, my guess is it probably has much darker and much lighter values (contrast) and might have much more saturated colors (golds and yellows). Observe carefully just how colorful, light or dark particular bits of the surface of your reference are, and if it is made of gold look at the actual reflections, i.e. how the light coming from parts of the figurine actually looks.

I may be wrong but I sense caution... throw it to the wind and experiment! You may be surprised at the results. The great thing with software is you can make endless versions of the same drawing!

    Good luck!

    Painting style

Great, I'll try to be bolder and try more extreme tones. Thanks! Correct, my goal is to get a realistic style at this point.

I painted this off a wooden Buddha figurine so the colors were subtler.
