I think it's a matter of getting more confident with the tablet. Just give it some time. Also a bigger tablet might give you the chance to make bigger strokes - a bit more leeway and freedom of expression.

I only paint with my pen tablet and painting with the mouse now is really restrictive. Maybe it's just a matter of what you're used to. Also the pen gives my wrist a rest. If you're young yes, but as you get older like me you might find the mouse can cause wrist problems, especially painting - more strokes with the mouse than if you're just browsing files or the internet.

I use a mouse most of the time. I have a wacom tablet that I use from time to time. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Some effects like making shiny objects with the metallic paint AR I can only get with using a mouse with the palette knife, while the tablet is best for actually painting with the pressure sensitivity.

I use a vector graphics program a lot and I find the mouse works much better for that so I just kind of stick with the mouse most of the time.

If you paint with the mouse you have to fiddle with the width of the paint stroke all the time, while it is just automatic with the tablet.

Have to agree with you there.
