    Connecting Lines

I am using the ink pen tool to trace lines on a pen & ink illustration. If I have to stop in the middle of a line and start again, I'm having the worst time connecting the ends of the 2 lines so the transition is nice and smooth. Is there an easy way to connect the ends of lines or does it just take practice to perfectly line things up? Perhaps I'm just missing a simple setting/technique but I can't figure it out! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Time, patience and practice is going to be the best thing in the long run, I'm afraid. However...

In traditional media, one might use a French Curve for this. There happens to be four French Curve stencils bundled with ArtRage, which can be found in the "Friskets" group on the Stencils panel. The object is finding a curve on one of them that matches the arc of your freehand line and using it to guide your stroke. An alternative to that, would be painting the edge you need and then making that a guide stencil, which you could then use to make a smooth, continuous, line. That would work something like this: Video Link
Nothing is easy to the unwilling.

Thank you very, very much! I will definitely check out the French Curve stencil too.

I draw the new line onto a new layer so I can move it around until it appears as a smooth connection. Then I "merge layer down".
