Admirable! One of my guitar heroes, without a doubt I would love to be able to play like he did.
You know that he went around and played with every famous guitarist that he could get to play with him. I think what he was doing was going through the big names both to learn their chops, and also to dominate them, to beat them at their own game. This painting shows Hendrix with attitude, as if he's calling out like a star boxer challenging all comers.
Can you imagine being so good that you're in a world of your own? Like being fired out of a cannon. It's hard to keep pace with a man having been fired at the stars like that, so many years before. He's not a man anymore at that point. He's a concept, he's a direction, and he set the tone for guitar for so many that comparisons with other players is impossible now because we've absorbed so much from him.
And on the other hand I also heard that he had a great depth as well.
This painting gets a lot of that, between the attitude you gave him and the electric energy in that it seems like he's not settled down to being a mere human anymore. He's radio waves and sounds. And this is why stopping at this stage was a good choice. I think you would lose that effect if you polished this painting more. Very good work.
