Dumb and ugly, but gorgeous as well!

One of my favourite Australian Birds, the Emu. Started off playing and came up with this.

Photographed recently at Healesville Sanctuary, Victoria.

    Hi Robyn,
    Nicely done!
Ahhh, they're just doing the best....don't want to mess with these though, strong birds they are!
Visited a farm in the US that raised them, that was a experience!
    Take care,
    Steve

Love this copespeak. He is so alive especially the eyes. It looks whatever you paint, all comes out very well. Really love his feathers also.

Thank you Steve, Danny and AT-TA!

Yes Steve, while I was trying to get good shots of him, there was a small Japanese child getting far too close. I kept telling her he would peck her, and it took a while for it to sink in. They are inquisitive and always looking for a feed, so a small nose could have been quite appealing.

I love their squiggly feathers and long lashes. I haven't done much with the eyelashes; I didn't want him too cutesy!!

Really like the way you painted it, it looks both regal and fierce.

  10. Your style suits this bird so well. This one doesn't remind me of that book of old (mentioned in the other bird thread of yours), but I like it just the same. The way you've captured the eye so simply yet effectively almost has me scratching my head wondering how it was done.
