    You don't see too many mermaids caught in a fisherman's noose these days. Net, maybe. Perhaps a comment on whales beaching themselves? An environmental comment perhaps?

    What I find interesting about this odd situation is that she is in fact weightless under the water, so the hangman's noose is not entirely life threatening, more a threat to her freedom -- the stuff of so many romantic novels. <sigh>

    I believe she aspires to be a thespian. But it must be tough for a mermaid underwater to show tears welling up when they immediately get absorbed into the sea. And therein lies a possible potential pathetic poetic petifore packin' metaphor.
