Lightbulb A better "Sticker Tool" for real bitmap painting! and more..

My favourite paint program could be even better by making some improvements like these:

I have a suggestion that would help a lot if you, like me, are using the same page size and style every time: Page templates.

A page template is supposed to store page size, page resolution, canvas texture and colour, a number of layers and even, maybe, tools and tools settings. That would make things a bit easier if you, like me, makes multiple pages with the same settings and tools. Like 24 or 36 pages. A page templated is instantly loaded at the startup withour having going through the same process every time you make a new page.

Another suggestion is a better "Sticker Tool" like this:

Opacity by pressure, texture pickup from layer (or canvas), colour pickup like the oil brush, smear, blend, and even erase setting, and a new name. I think the "Sticker Tool" is a bit odd. Just "Bitmap" would be a good descriptive name.

In Corel Painter there is a layer option "color pickup from layers below". It makes the Tools used to be aware of underlying layers colours, to blend and mix without having to merge layers. That would be nice and make ArtRage a so much better paint app. It is my third suggestion.

A regular crop tool with aspect ratio settings (like 16:9 or 2048 x 1536 px). 4th suggestion, that is.

That's all for now! Looking forward to see all this it implemented in a future version.

And as alwys: thank you for a great software!

These are great suggestions Henry. I agree, the Sticker Spray should have a new name, IMO, and I would love it it picked up texture and blended/ interacted with color. It often feels like a sort of "half-finished" tool.

Improvements would be welcome, but I'd take a more sophisticated tool set for the normal first, hands down-- Loading= Pressure, Opacity= Pressure, etc., these sort of advanced settings for power users on the Oil or Watercolor or Pencil tools, etc would be of great value.

I agree completely. But being able to create your own brushes is of great value for me. Just like in other software where you can just "capture" a brush...and use them with full strength.

We'll take a look at these suggestions as we work on the tool system.

There's a technical limitation getting a stamp based tool to smear like the oil brush though due to the way the simulation tracks brush paths. Most apps create brush strokes by dropping pixels from a 'stamp' on to a surface repeatedly, which is basically what the sticker spray does, but the oil brush in ArtRage tracks the path of the stroke in a different manner to allow blending at the leading edge of the stroke itself. If each 'dab' of the brush is a complete brush head then there's no 'leading edge' so it becomes hard to track how the paint is smeared. This is why the sticker spray doesn't interact with current paint volume at this time.

The texture of the canvas or the layer is good enough for me. Like the "dry" sort of tools that, depending of the texture settings (grain size and roughness) in ArtRage, not only makes marks of the tool itself, but also reacts to the canvas texture. No "Impasto" is what I want but "Softness to" make the tool more or less react and pick up underlying color, that would be great. In Painter that setting is "Resaturation" and it makes the tool less "hard", more or less like a soft pastel. Maybe this is a completely new tool? Not a "sticker" tool? I think all Procreate brushes are like this.

Any way: ArtRage is a great paint software. I love it. Thanks for responding.
