    The King

This is the most ambitious thing I've tried so far. It isn't as realistic as I'd like but I don't think it's too bad. It was mainly an exercise in drawing hair, I've always had trouble with that. I'm happy with the hair, it worked the way I wanted.

The last time I kept an open mind,
my brain fell out and the dog grabbed it.
Now it's full of dirt, toothmarks, and dog slobber.
No more open minds or dogs for me.www.gms9810.com/

For a moment, when I saw your post title, I thought I'd be seeing a picture of Elvis, lol. Good job.

George, the hair is just great, and a good effort on the rest.

I have been impressed with your artworks. You seem to get more into it with each painting. This one really stands out for me as a growth in your skills and muse. I see a technique I like, just want to know if thats the effect you used. The grey parts of the lions' face, : was that a separate layer and then blurred?? Just curious cause I have tried something like that before......if not still very cool effect no matter how you achieved it, well done. Use signature is great, really adds a lot of personal touch as opposed to see fonts used as signatures, MC Escher had a great sig on his stuff..............

The gray areas were done with a sponge, black and white, on one layer. The hair on another. I wasn't sure how to do large quantities of salt and pepper short hair, plus that side was supposed to be shaded. The color samples I took didn't completely match the original image, not sure why. The hair was educational, rather than use a brush, I just squirted globs of the hair color from tubes then used the knife to move it around then a brush finally. I think my big mistake before was trying to make the hair harder than it needs to be.
