save time using layers and opacity settings

I create a webcomic called Space Farmers and in order to save time on some panels, i will simulate shadows and lighting utilizing the settings in layers. In the example below I wanted to add some bright lighting for dramatic effect in the panel, so I created a new layer on top of my colors, painted in 100% white (where I wanted the lighting to be), then turned the opacity of that layer down to 50%. This technique also works to simulate shadows (using black instead of white) and also works well to create night scenes (color a panel with your normal palette, create a new layer and flood fill it with a medium blue and set the layers blend mode to multiply).

This is great! I'm experimenting with this today. Thanks!
