    Album leaf peony: 2nd + 3rd leaves

In the line drawing style of a typical 17th century Chinese album leaf, but much simplified ... iPhone 4 with drawing layer mounted on digital rice paper ...
Adding second leaf in similar style ... pencil on iPhone 4 on digital rice paper ...

    Album leaf: red peony

    hi gary, copespeak, thanks ...

"Red peony" is the final album leaf in this series, and is done in the "xieyi" or freehand brushwork typical of Bada Shanren, a 17th century Chinese calligraphist and painter known for his eccentric behavior, which can be seen also in his odd and highly personal style of painting ... For this reason, he sometimes is thought of as the founder of modern Chinese ink and wash painting ...

For the gradated washes, this red peony was done with watercolor on the iPad, then mounted on tinted digital rice paper ...
