I'm trying to do something but I don't know if it can be done.

I want to use the Color Dodge blend mode on a layer (lets call it layer 3-- on top). I want the Color Dodge to affect value on the layer below it-- Layer 2. However, I also have one other layer below it as well, Layer 1 (on the bottom), with a different color. Currently, the Color Dodge blend mode effect affects both Layer 1 and Layer 2, as they over overlap. I want it to only affect Layer 2-- so that it will sort of act like a non-destructive Mask.

Can this be done? Would using Groups and Group Blend modes help in any way? Like, if I were to group Layers 2 and 3 together, would that separate out the effect they have on Layer 1?
