Be careful about mouth. It's along the eyes one of the most expression element of the face. Unless you are painting a grinding shark, it's worth to follow some usual rules:

The corners of the lips should be pulled away from the teeth causing a hole dark accent within the corners. Never let teeth to run to these places as if they were pressed against the lips. Tone the teeth slightly down as they go back.

Two front upper teeth are only to be accented more. Never paint hard gaps in between the teeth. Not model them too much. These lines are subtle and delicate. Any used line may be already too thick. Try to suggest teeth rather than paint. Indicate more th gums above the teeth rather than these gaps.

If you overemphasize the detail of teeth, they do not seem to stay within the mouth anymore. This can greatly spoil an otherwise good portrait.

Another point is the fullness of the lips themself. It must be felt and lit with highlights, especially the bottom one.

Your empirical and intuitive approach is getting quickly and dramatically improved results indeed. I guess Your friend blessed You for this!
Not caring particularly of an excessively scientific or rationally pedantic analysis for reproduction of the features, You're building a quite original, fresh and intriguing personal style I appreciate.
Your last two portraits are great and I'm sure that, as soon as You make further discoveries by practising, You'll be able to come back to them and with quite few appropriate touches, get wonderful final versions.
    Go, Shadow Jo, go!
    Panta rei (everything flows)!

Thank you for your kind words Caesar. I am still working on growing with thease. I am still struggling to produce wrinkles properly. I did not like the felt pen and pensel teckniques because they looked liked they did not belong the ways I have tryed so far. I will keep trying. You probly can see how I struggled with the lines of the indentations in his cheaks that produces his unique smile. I built up the cheaks getting darker till they met the angled part of the mouth then went with a lighter color but some of the lines got smudged more than desired. I made this one 50 in by 50 in so the painting is huge to work with.
