    Eliminating background color under subject

I need to eliminate the background color underneath my subject in my painting. Can this be done without erasing? and how? Each dog has a base color.

Unless it's on a separate layer, you've got your work cut out for you. You're either going to have to erase it by hand, or try using a 3rd party filter (if you're using AR Studio Pro) to select those colors. But that would probably be more trouble then it's worth.
Nothing is easy to the unwilling.

I am using ar pro. Background and base are on separate layers. If I could easily take the background colors from behind the base colors. I know I have done it before, but I had a mind lapse! Any help would be appreciated

Try deleting or turning off the layer that has your color to be eliminated. Just make sure you have a saved copy to revert back to if you get undesirable results.
