    wonderful and beautiful portrait John. she's gorgeous.

    one suggestion is where you make corrections around the figure by repainting the background it should become seamless with the background... don't let the viewer see the touched up area as separate clouded areas or lighter than the background. you will find it makes a big difference to be more solidly convincing and unified as background. you can still blend paint with the figure and background but just not appear as a lighter foggy area around the figure.

    the one line along her inner arm stands out as a type of line that appears nowhere else in the painting. maybe blend it in to look more painterly and harmonious with the rest.

    just a couple small things to improve what is already a great portrait.

    Nice job on the question of background painting it would work better if you painted it on a separate lower layer than the figure.

    Great portrait painting. Really first rate head! She feels formally done up and the make-up is nicely applied. Owing to the skill shown here, the portrait probably resembles her very much. Nice job!
