why are reference photos slightly rotated?

why do they come in a bit rotated? have to square them off each time. is it just for a cuter aesthetic? to give the effect of having a little pic pinned up to refer to like you would in the real world? I mean it is cute, but just wondering why?

It was to break up the straight lines that you get from most windows, and give a slightly more 'real' feel to the system.
