    Great spotted woodpecker

This male great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) is a frequent visitor to my garden. I photographed the bird earlier this year using a Sony DSLR and 500mm lens, and have used the photo as my reference.

The bird is painted with chalk and a small amount of pencil, whilst the background is a 'fill' and some air brush.

Excellent painting, nice detail in the feathers.

The chalk softness is so appropriate on this little bird! Bravo!

Katie, Gary, Christine, Caesar, Geoff and kenmo, many thanks for viewing and commenting.

Geoff, I don't know why but I feel that chalk is one of the most versatile of all of the mediums represented in ArtRage.
