    October Parakeet

Looks like our feathered friend is getting into the spirit of the season.

Watercolor, pencil and a little splatter stencil

    Enjoy and thank you

clever image and well done... I like the splatter textures just enough and great color contrast with the yellow green of the Parakeet with the scarlet of the leaf...

I just love this image. Your use of the pencil and water color tool worked great with this image.

I agree. The muted use of color here really mimics realworld watercolors very well. I often find digital watercolors too saturated. The use of the pencil is also nice. Fresh, quick lines give it a looseness and flow that's nice-- I particulalry like the the sketchlines on the back and tail of the bird to add a bit of shadow/depth. I also like the use of the splatter stencil. I particularly like how you kept it (mostly) "within the lines"- a technique one might use with natural media to add a bit of random texture to an object, rather than just splattering it all around.

It's really very successful, IMO. If I was going to nitpick, it'd be nice to see the bird and/or leaf grounded, with some shadow work or a ground plane of some sort. But that's really quibbling. You didn't include it, so it's hard to critique it. ;P

Thanks for sharing. Fun to see, and ponder how I might use what you're doing here.
