Pen settings for India Ink brush work and textural effects??

I'm trying to do some pen and ink work, but I'm not able to achieve two effects I'm looking for.

    1) I'd like it to work like I'm using a brush to paint pen and ink work- thus line weight variance and thick to thin, which I can get, but also perhaps some of the dry brush work you can get with the oil brush settings. I'm having a hard time using the oil brush to do this though, as I get impasto effects, which I don't want. Simultaneously, I want it dark like India Ink, so I don't want to use thinners.

    2) I'd like to get some sort of textural effects when doing pen and ink work- perhaps like using a brush, as explained above, or like with a crow quill nib kind of ink pen. I feel like I ought to be able to achieve this, but my experiments lead me to believe that the ink pen settings don't allow interaction with texture. Is this correct?

Basically, I'm looking for more painterly/textural expression, but with an ink pen or a brush using India Ink, so no impasto effect and no use of thinners reducing the blackness of the ink. Ideas anyone??

The Ink Pen doesn't react with canvas texture, but the Gloop Pen does.

You can get some interesting effects by playing around with canvas settings.

That's actually kind of interesting. Not what I was looking for exactly, but interesting, and closer. Essentially, I'd like some textural quality to my pen and ink work in Artrage, and I'm stumped on how to achieve it. ??

I'll play around with the Gloop Pen and see what I can see. I feel like I ought to be able to do something workable with the Oil Brush??? Or perhaps one of the possible PS Sticker Sprays-- the usual problem with them is that they don't blend color, but for pen and ink work, set at a small size % perhaps that would be useful.....

It was the Liquid Flow preset (except I adjusted the Pressure as needed). The canvas texture was Coarse Weave in the Rough group.

    Try this

I do not know if this is what you want.

Watercolor tool selected, watercolor paper, black color.
    pressure 75%
    thinners 10%
    loading 97%
    Color bleed 71%
    Paper wet off
    insta-dry off

    If you want dry effects:

    Reduce loading (75% for example)

If you want Ink wash painting add thinners, and for opaque black, thinners = 0

    Here is the preset:

That is an awesome setting LightF. I like it with the loading down around 30%. Really nice with overlaying light over dark colours. Will definitely be using it, thanks for sharing

    LightF,
I also like this setting-- it's close to what I'm looking for, in terms of textural qualities and reaction to grain. However, the watercolors don't have the density of India Ink. That's why I originally started out with the Ink tool, because I want it black, like ink, instead of opaque like WC.

I'll keep exploring. This is a nice setting for WC's though.
