Okay, be gentle on me here; I've never done anything like this before. I just dove completely off the deep end from my usual realistic style lol. It was actually quite liberating! I was inspired to paint this when I picked up a Donna Dewberry book today, and was fascinated with her techniques for creating art with a few simple brush strokes. While it isn't quite so easy to do this in ArtRage, a similar effect can be achieved with a little work and imagination.
So for this painting, I wanted to do a bird of paradise flower. This painting was done with watercolors and knife, totally freehand. I think I might do some more of these types of paintings; it's really fun and refreshing after working on the more intricate pencil drawings that I usually do!
Thanks guys! The knife and I aren't on the best speaking terms either, but I resorted to a combination of threats and bribes, which seem to be working alright so far. I'll keep on bashing on...
SSoul, I know what you mean, I love to paint flowers using the double loaded brush, and later I would apply another coat for depth on the inner part of the flower-and the stamin and pollen when I would use acryllics. Kind of a Dewberry plus Alexander effect-haha! I just wish I could do the same thing with AR, but it is great to have those layers to go on top with more color, blend with knife, and merge. Sometimes this is pretty close.
Beautiful flower and I love the canvas and palette you've chosen!
Thank you! Now if we can just figure out how to multi-load brushes in ArtRage...but yes, you can get close using layers, it just takes a little more work.
SSoul... a beautiful flower and great canvas texture, great colors... I am not familar with Donna Dewberry but will check into her work and books.. that is one of the great benefits of a world wide artistic family... we get to learn about a great many artists..
Aw jeez, I just realized that mountain does indeed look a little bit like a breast...okay, maybe more than a little. I'm never going to look at that painting the same way again. Thanks for making me laugh!
*note to self: make less symmetrical mountains next time.
