    Serrat

Okay, last of the musician series for now. (I think I´m hearing a collective sigh of relief. )

Joan Manuel Serrat is considered one of the most important figures of modern, popular music in both the Spanish and Catalan languages. Although the links below are mostly romantic in nature, he´s penned many a political song and was exiled for a bit during the Franco regime.

Apart from his own lyrics, he´s recorded albums devoted to the poetry of Antonio Machado (my favorite 20th century Spanish poet), Miguel Hernandez, a poet who died while imprisoned during the Franco times, and Mario Benedetti, a fine Uruguayan author.

He claims music as his profession and wine-making as his passion. Apparently he has some technical training as an agronomist and owns a vineyard and bodega in Cataluña.

“Mediterráneo” has been considered the most important Spanish song of the 20th century. The clip below is from the early ´70s.

Hope you enjoy the painting and the music!

Wonderful image of this special Spanish singer...!
    Congratulations my friend...
Serrat was only able to visit Chile when democracy was restored in 1989.

Bellísima imagen de este extraordinario cantante español...!
    Felicitaciones mi amugo...
Solo pudo visitar Chile, una vez recuperada la democracia en 1989.

Great one too! Black and white here was probably a brilliant idea.
The sound of the classical guitar so many people plays marvellously in Spain is among the most beautiful to hear from the ears down to the heart.
