but the real story is him:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11621076

    He's younger than I am!!!

(and I don't look anywhere like as old.......wine is much kinder than horse!!)

well you should definitely do more portraits. you really captured him here.
which reminds me I haven't visited Speggie's rock star thread in a long time.
wonder if it is still around somewhere. it's great stuff too.

This is an awesome piece of work! And - He and I are the same age, and he looks like he was hit by a bus! (I just saw him interviewed on one of the mag. shows.) I did my share of "Indulging", but I never did that smack thing. Glad I didn't!

    love it Peter.
I know how that goes when you don't get a comment sometimes you go "well I guess this is crap" and then end up pulling it or giving up on that direction you were traveling.
I encourage you to not do that. Sometimes pieces actually just get missed. It happens... and I think if you can paint such beautiful landscapes you can surely paint the landscape of a face.
great job on this one also. love to see more of your portraits actually.

I have a couple suggestions on the Mick. Use a more painterly background that has some actual visual brush strokes in it. Think of the masters' portraits and the backgrounds they used. Use a deep rich ochre or burnt sienna that would compliment the hues in the figure. You will be amazed at the difference it will make to this one. cause it is good but the background tends to be a bit cheap instead of rich.
no. 2 put some different dark hues with loose painterly brush strokes in the glasses... not black...instead of black use dark tints of blue or purple and this way they will stop floating visually above the figure and seem alienated from the harmony of the rest of the painting. use the same kind of painterly brush strokes you use in the rest of the portrait and in your landscapes. I think you will be amazed at the difference these two hints will make to this piece... 'cause it is worth the little extra.

Me too Skylar..........but having lost four good friends.............mostly to heroin............................... I stopped short of that and I've not touched a thing since my last friend succumbed to his self induced fate.........we do what we choose to do. Thank you for your honest comment Mate!

Thanks Albert.................OK here are a few more from the portrait period.............mostly musicians but hey!It was my life!
One politician........................... flawed like all of us....... but why should we expect more???
