Thread: color-junky inspired

  1. color-junky inspired

I tried this after seeing wenkat's painting on this thread: http://www2.ambientdesign.com/forums...ad.php?t=31649

It's paint tube, glitter, pallette knife, and seven colors

Very beautiful Emily, love the colors and the way you used them

  3. Thanks! I did a bigger one today with a similar technique. I have some woven metal paper that I've been saving for years and scanned in to use as a texture. For this one, I did the glitter as an underlayer. The DeviantArt page has a link to a detail view with fullview enabled so that you can see the texture of the paper. DeviantArt page:

My wife is pretty annoyed with me sitting on the couch all morning, so I better do some chores now. Hopefully she'll leave this afternoon and I'll be able to work out this technique more.

  4. I thought it was interesting to compare the above digital painting to a pastel painting I did a few months ago. I'm looking forward to getting to a place with digital where I can follow my instincts with the colors and come up with something really spectacular. I'm feeling two main drawbacks with digital right now: (1) I can't look at a big piece of paper; I wish I had a big monitor! I fantasize about hooking up my computer to a large-screen TV and working that way. (2) it adds another layer of separation between me and the art so it slightly takes away some of the spontaniety. I think more practice will help me feel more natural in the medium and more expressive. DeviantArt page for this piece: http://fav.me/d2uwscw

  5. Oh, after saying that my wife was annoyed with me sitting on the couch all morning, I should mention that she was also impressed by the digital painting I did, and she was happy that I cleaned the office and did the dishes while she was running errands this afternoon. "We'll" watch some movies later while I work on my art.

It is so satisfying to play with colors and you match them very well together.
And welcome to the Art Rage.

  9. Thanks! I love playing with colors, and I'm finding that using the paint tube and palette knife is a decent approximation to soft pastels, which is a favorite medium of mine, so I look forward to working with that more. I think I'll be done with my third one today soon (OK, it's past midnight, so it's not today anymore I guess). I hate that tomorrow is Monday. Sometimes they're easier to deal with exhausted; especially when satisfied about a new painting I have an unpleasant customer meeting in the morning.

Going to bed now. Happy Monday
