Never Made it Back (to Oklahoma City) UPDATED -- Title explained

OK, after a few requests for more info here goes:

When I was 20 years old, I took a VERY bad flight in a blizzard and after a skidding landing in Newark I vowed not to fly again. This made going back to the University of New Mexico a bit problematic and I ended up a few weeks later on a Bus heading back to the southwest (48 hours in total)

On this trip I ended up sitting next to a pretty gal whose name now escapes me. She lived in Oklahoma City. We hit it off and since I was playing in a rock band that occasionally did a circuit through the southwest or West Texas I told her I would call her if we ever came through OKC.

As it happened, the band split up and I never did get there again. When I was doing this piece, I had a flashback to the whole episode when it occurred to me that the gal in the painting looked somewhat like her in her cowboy hat.

I have long since gone back to flying -- though I have never cared for it since. Al

Hey Al! Excellent work! I need to go back to see what I have missed from you. Hope all is well and I hope to be back on more often soon. This one pulled me right in!

I donīt know the story behind this one, but itīs a captivating portrait. Itīs a good thing she didnīt make it back ot OKC this morning--flash floods closing most roads in the center.
