    Winters Shadow (Acrylic and ArtRage)

Sorry I haven't been around much lately... Between work, school, and the kids starting baseball and soccer, I have had very little time to sit at the computer and even less time to paint (urrgggh!)

This is a painting of some Aspen trees in the snow that I started on canvas with Acrylic. It got to a point that I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to bring it so I snapped a photo of it, downloaded it into AR and started experimenting. The image of just the trees and shadows is the acrylic on canvas version, the one with the leaves and added shadows and branches is the AR makeover. I tried to make the changes in AR using tools that will be feasible to translate back onto the canvas version if I decide to change it. Thanks for checking it out!

Awesome atmosphere you have there! I like the second one, reminds me of many places I have been living in Colorado.

The second is my favorite as well because the stark bare trunks against the snow say "still of deep winter" so beautifully! Very nice work Ed.

And don't be a stranger -- we've missed you of late! Al

Sketch, wonderful what you are studying. I like both versions, like the shades of colors, like the composition and foresee the overlay of AR-Acrylic.

Sketch, this is a very fine "experiment." Fascinating to compare the two media.

Hey Eddie, same here too, I had a lot of these Urrrgggh moments too the last weeks. It seems I just can't find enough spare time at the moment to post and paint as I'd like to.
I think both of versions of the painting are great.I could see you just developing the lights and details on the bark and the snow in the second one, as it already has a great feel to it as it is, but I also really like the leaves and the more versatile shadows in the upper one. Great concepts. Looking forward seeing it when you've finished it.
