Thread: To hatch or not to hatch you decide.

  1. To hatch or not to hatch you decide.

    Hi all,
Working on my first ever comic book hobby project and cant decide whether to use hatching and color or just color and line, so Im throwing it open to a public vote. Im trying to partly mimic the style of Victorian illustration not too sure if Ive pulled it off though.

Heres the non-hatched first panel, hatched line art and the combined color and hatching - Let me know which you prefer:

OOO I love the third the most! Then again, I don't have a "trained" eye. Just from my perspective and point of view, I think the hatch is great. Adds nice detail

I'd say 'Aye' for hatching & color!!

It brings good contrast to the image and makes things better!

Dear Draw, since you asked, guess the black and white sketch is the 'hatch' and is a wonderful drawing, the color painting is beautiful,,, guess the black and white 'hatch' is what you intend to add to the color painting, but, i like the color painting without the hatch, just like it plain better, no real reason, either way very pretty!! best wishes!!!

  8. Hatch & Color it is

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply.
Looks like hatching and color is the way to go by popular acclaim (even though it doubles the workload - huff!).
    Thanks again,

I do not know, but I like all of this.
    not too critical, right?

ps. NN 2,3, as the monotony of styles
pps. N2 for the book version will be cheaper

    Actually the hatch-only looks better.
The color one without the hatch comes in second
Maybe try to make the colors thinner and then add the hatch it might look better.
Not a pro here either but just an opinion
